Since 2015, I have been involved in one of the most amazing and inspirational sports clubs I’ve come across, Achilles Running Club, Sydney.
Achilles isn’t just about getting out there and trying your best. Whether you join the weekly meets for a walk, or a run, if you training for your first 5K or your 100th Marathon, Achilles is about community and above all, about allowing people with disabilities to enjoy the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
The club’s mission is to promote personal achievement, enhance self-esteem, and lower the barriers between people. The club is incredibly friendly, supportive, and full of the most inspirational characters you can imagine.
As a sighted member of the club, I act as a guide. I run or walk with vision impaired members and together we aim to do our absolute best at each training day and each event.
